Hair Trends for Fall 2013

Fashion lines this year are giving models a noticeably more casual look. It’s time to start playing with hairstyles. While a great deal of styling has gone into each look, these women are being made to look as though no thought was given to their hair before they stepped outside.

Many of the fashion trends for Fall 2013 have a noticeable business or grunge tone and the hair styles are clearly following suit.

Hair Trends

Pony Tails

Harper’s Bazaar reports that ponytails were very prominent on the runway for this upcoming season.

Fact 1: Ponytails that were shown on models during fashion week were noticeable being kept low, sitting at the nape of the neck. Hair with this look was also very sharply parted.

Fact 2: This look is also noticeably taking on a messier look. Stray ends are being allowed to fly in many looks, allowing natural waves and curls to show through.

Fact 3: Some lines, including John Galliano, showed very sleek and polished ponytails instead but these still featured knots that were very low and close to the nape of the neck.

Much of the hair and fashion trends for fall are focusing on practical and ‘barely there’ statements. The ponytail look is allowing other elements of the look to take the lead instead of focusing too much on the hair.

Colors Matters

Those that appreciate a custom, dyed look have a few colors to choose from that will blend in with fall trends.

Fact 1: Platinum blondes are going by the wayside this season. It’s all about pale, creamy blondes that will help to accentuate flawless skin. Those with light brown hair are also adding a light blonde contrast to make the color pop.

Fact 2: Honey blondes with darker colors at the roots are also making a comeback. This can be combined with a buttery blonde on the bottom to create a light/dark contrast.

Fact 3: Reds are in for a variety of accents this season and hair is no exception. A light Champaign red , strawberry gold or bright cinnamon color are perfect on a variety of skin tones  to add an air of warmth to any look.

Those with dark skin tones are also adding red or blonde highlights, though often in more neon tones than those have very fair skin. Cosmopolitan notes that most color changes are accents that help to enhance your natural hair color.

Side Swept Looks

Harper’s Bazaar also reports that models were showing many looks that featured hair swept off to the side, during fashion week.

Truth 1: Faux bangs were very popular amongst models, with large sections of hair pulled to the side and swept behind the ear to create a full look.

Truth 2: Wide side parts were used to accentuate this look. A very straight, distinct part was also paired with a sleek ponytail in many of the looks, combining style trends from different lines.

Truth 3: Many side swept looks also took on a very messy look, being referred to as “the wet look”. Oil was used to make models look like they had just stepped out of the shower, tousled their hair and ran outside. This look was usually paired with a generous side part to add volume in addition to these wet, crimpy waves.

Fall Hair Trends

The side part is being used to add a bit of volume while still playing up the sleek look that many lines are showing this year. It can also add a bit of contrast to a hair style that can help to accentuate the hair, in spite of the style being otherwise minimalist.

There is a great deal of variety in hair trends for Fall 2013, so women are being given more room to get creative.
